Notes

Anglican chant (to which the Psalms of this recording are set) is characteristic of the Church of England and developed from plainsong psalm-tones early in the eighteenth century. It is characterized by the introduction of harmony and lends itself (as plainsong does not) to imaginative organ accompaniment; indeed the various moods of the Psalms can be mirrored by an organist to very great effect.
