"Srimathi M. S. Subbulakshmi, musician of world renown, has also thrilled people as an actress on the silver screen in the 'forties'. Her portrayal of Kalidasa's immortal creation Sakuntalai had a glamour, all its own, those days. She excelled therein both as actress and singer ; the full-throated melody itself carried with it the intensity of emotion in acting. In this L.P. she chirps those dramatically saturated moments of Sakuntalai's joy and sorrow, her songs of love and pangs of separation. In two of the duets we also hear the voice of the late-lamented front rank musician Sri G. N. Balasubramaniam. The songs, with all their appeal for the people at large, were at the same time tuned in the classical style."
